Leopards, elephants and wild coastline
Sri Lanka is one of the best places in Asia to see wild elephants and leopards. This compact safari tour combines Udawalawe, famous for its elephant herds, with Yala, which has one of the highest leopard densities in the world. Safaris are taken with experienced local trackers in open-top jeeps.
Meet your driver and travel south (about 4.5 hours). Check in near Udawalawe National Park and rest before an early start.
Overnight: Udawalawe
Morning jeep safari in Udawalawe National Park, where elephants are almost guaranteed. After lunch, drive to the Yala area (about 2 hours).
Overnight: Yala / Tissamaharama
Rise before dawn for a morning safari, when leopards and other animals are most active. Return for breakfast and a rest by the pool. Optional afternoon safari or visit to the temples of Kataragama.
Overnight: Yala / Tissamaharama
Drive to Colombo Airport (about 5–6 hours), or continue to Galle or Mirissa to add a beach stay. Yala’s park closure periods vary, so we will confirm dates when you enquire.
Itineraries are a guide and can be reordered, shortened or extended. Driving times are approximate and depend on traffic and weather.
